Found black mold near AC vent. Is my family safe?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past two weeks and I’m starting to panic. I just pulled our sofa away from the wall in the living room and found a huge patch of black mold behind it, right where the AC vent is. We’ve been blasting the AC because of the heat, and I’m worried the spores are blowing everywhere. Is it safe to stay here, and should I call a professional mold remediation company or will a regular cleaning service in Dubai be enough?

Black mold near an AC vent is a significant health concern, especially with your children experiencing respiratory symptoms. The constant AC use in Dubai's climate creates a cycle of condensation and humidity that mold thrives on. It is not safe to remain in that room without addressing the source.
Do not attempt to clean this yourself with store-bought products. Disturbing the mold without proper containment will aerosolize the spores, pushing them throughout your home via the AC system. A regular cleaning service is not equipped for this; they lack the containment protocols, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatments required for safe remediation. You need a professional mold inspection and remediation company. The priority is to identify the moisture source—often a clogged condensate drain line or poor insulation causing condensation inside the wall cavity. A proper assessment includes using a moisture meter to find the extent of the problem and air sampling to determine spore levels. In many cases, the wall cavity itself requires remediation. Until a professional arrives, isolate the area if possible, avoid using that AC unit, and ensure your family spends time in well-ventilated spaces. For health guidance, consult a doctor and inform them about the mold exposure. Look for a remediation provider that follows IICRC standards and can provide before-and-after lab results to verify the air quality has been restored. |
