Found hidden black mold, is professional inspection needed?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past month, and we can't figure out why. I've just pulled a chest of drawers away from the wall in our bedroom in Jumeirah Park and found a huge patch of black mold hidden behind it. The air just feels damp all the time, even with the AC running. Should we get a professional mold inspection or is there something else I should do first?

Based on your description, a professional mold inspection is not just recommended; it is essential. The presence of a large hidden patch of black mold, persistent coughing in children, and a constant feeling of dampness are significant red flags that indicate a serious indoor environmental issue.

In the UAE's climate, particularly in areas like Jumeirah Park, the high humidity and constant use of air conditioning create ideal conditions for mold growth. Your AC unit itself could be a source of moisture due to condensation issues or a clogged drain pan, inadvertently spreading mold spores throughout your home. A hidden colony of that size suggests there is likely a underlying moisture problem, such as a minor plumbing leak within the wall or condensation buildup, that you cannot see.

Attempting to clean visible mold without identifying and rectifying the source of moisture is a temporary fix at best. Furthermore, disturbing the mold during DIY attempts can aerosolize a high concentration of spores and mycotoxins, potentially exacerbating your family's respiratory symptoms.

Our certified inspection process involves using moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras to detect hidden dampness, and air quality tests to identify spore types and concentration levels. This data is critical for developing an effective remediation plan that is compliant with Dubai Municipality's health and safety standards.

For the health of your family, I strongly advise against disturbing the area further. Please contact our team for a comprehensive assessment.
