Found mold in Dubai villa; DIY or call professionals?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks, and I just pulled out a box from the back of our walk-in wardrobe and found a huge patch of black and green mold on the wall behind it. It's a built-in closet in our master bedroom in a Jumeirah villa. What's the best way to handle this myself, or should I call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai right away?

Given the location in your bedroom and the health symptoms, this warrants immediate professional assessment. The combination of persistent coughing and a large, hidden mold patch suggests a significant issue that likely extends beyond the visible area.

In Dubai’s climate, mold thrives on high humidity and condensation from constant AC use. A villa’s walk-in wardrobe is a classic problem area due to poor air circulation and potential hidden condensation on exterior walls.

For a patch larger than one square meter, especially with health impacts, DIY is not advisable. Disturbing it improperly can aerosolize spores throughout your home, worsening the problem. The primary goal is to identify and correct the moisture source—often a small leak, condensation, or rising damp—which requires diagnostic equipment.

Professional remediation here follows strict protocols: containment of the area with negative air pressure, HEPA filtration, safe removal of contaminated materials, and antimicrobial treatment. Crucially, they will provide a post-remediation verification test from an independent lab to confirm the space is safe—this documented result is what protects your family’s health.

For any remediation company you contact, ask for their methodology and if they provide third-party lab verification. This is the standard for credible work in the UAE.
