How can I permanently fix closet mold from moisture?« Back to Previous Page
|
Our bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall, has started to feel damp and a few of my leather bags have developed small patches of white mold. This seems to have gotten worse since the weather became really humid a couple of months ago. I run the AC constantly but it doesn't seem to help the closet. What is the most effective way to get a proper mold inspection that can tell me exactly where the moisture is coming from and how to stop it for good?

Closet mold on an interior wall points to a persistent humidity issue the AC isn't addressing. The dampness is likely condensation from the temperature difference between the cool room and the warmer wall cavity, a common issue in Dubai's climate. A proper inspection must first identify the exact moisture source to create a permanent solution.
Effective inspections use two tools: a borescope to visually inspect inside the wall for hidden leaks or insulation gaps, and a thermo-hygrometer to map humidity and temperature differentials around the closet. This identifies if the problem is poor air circulation, a plumbing leak, or thermal bridging causing condensation. For a permanent fix, start by improving air circulation. Leave closet doors open and consider installing a small battery-operated dehumidifier or a ventilated door. For severe, recurring mold, a professional assessment is necessary to diagnose wall-specific issues. They can verify the problem isn't a hidden leak from adjacent bathrooms or pipes, which requires a different remediation approach. In many cases, the solution involves correcting the thermal bridge by improving insulation on the cold wall and ensuring a continuous vapour barrier. This stops condensation from forming in the first place. Simply cleaning the mold will not stop it from returning if the underlying moisture issue isn't resolved. |
