How can I permanently remove black mold from AC leak?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my master bedroom closet has been leaking for a while, and now I’ve found a patch of black mold on the back wall and on some of our shoes. We had a guy come to fix the leak last week, but I’m terrified it’s just going to come back once the summer humidity really kicks in. What’s the best way to not just clean this, but to make sure it’s completely gone for good?

The black mold is likely Stachybotrys, which thrives on the constant moisture from your AC leak. Simply wiping it away won't work; the hidden mold within the wall cavity is the real problem.

For a permanent solution, the damaged drywall and insulation behind it must be physically removed and replaced. Any porous materials like the affected shoes cannot be properly remediated and should be discarded. The root cause—the AC leak—must be permanently fixed, not just patched, to prevent the high humidity from causing a rapid recurrence.

In Dubai's climate, with AC running year-round, this is a job for a professional remediation company. They will set up containment to prevent spores from spreading to other parts of your home, use HEPA filtration to clean the air, and treat the area with antimicrobial solutions. The most critical step is verification; insist on a post-remediation test, preferably from an independent lab, to confirm spore counts are back to normal indoor levels. This is the only way to be sure it's completely gone for good.
