How much to fix black mold on bathroom ceiling in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The ceiling in our master bathroom in Jumeirah has started getting these black mold spots, and it’s definitely gotten worse since the humidity kicked in a couple of months ago. I’ve tried wiping it with vinegar, but it just comes back darker. I’m worried about it damaging the ceiling and the health of my family. What’s the realistic cost range here in Dubai for a professional to properly fix this, and is it a complete rip-off to try and handle it myself?

Based on the climate in Dubai, what you're experiencing is an extremely common yet serious issue. The black spots are almost certainly Stachybotrys chartarum or Aspergillus niger, both of which thrive in the high humidity and constant condensation cycles caused by year-round AC use and hot showers. The primary cause is inadequate ventilation, allowing moisture to become trapped in the ceiling void or behind the paint.

Attempting a DIY fix with vinegar or bleach is a temporary solution at best. These methods only remove surface discoloration without addressing the root moisture problem or the hyphae (root system) growing within the gypsum board. This is why it returns darker and more aggressive.

For a professional remediation in a master bathroom in an area like Jumeirah, the cost is not a simple flat fee. It depends entirely on the extent of the damage. A small, contained area (under 10 sq. ft.) may range from AED 1,500 to AED 2,500. However, if the mold has penetrated the ceiling board or spread into the AC ducting above, the scope and cost increase significantly for proper containment, removal, and reconstruction, potentially reaching AED 4,000 to AED 7,000. This includes HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial application, and post-remediation verification to ensure spore counts return to safe levels, which is a critical step often skipped in DIY attempts.

Given the health risks and potential for structural damage, a professional inspection is non-negotiable. Our certified inspectors at Saniservice use thermal imaging and moisture meters to identify the exact moisture source and extent of contamination. We provide a detailed scope of work and fixed-price quote. For an accurate assessment and permanent solution, please call us at 800-MOLDS or email hello@saniservice.com.
