How to clean AC mold in my Dubai apartment?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be making my whole studio in JLT damp and I've just spotted small black specks starting to form around the edges of the vents. It's been running non-stop for the last two months because of the heat. What's the best way to clean this off and is there a service here that can treat the AC unit itself to stop it from coming back?

The black specks around your AC vent are likely mold growth, a common issue in Dubai due to the constant AC operation creating condensation. For a small, visible area, you can clean it with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 1 part water, applied with a cloth. Always wear a mask and gloves to avoid inhaling spores.

However, cleaning the vent cover is a temporary fix if the mold is inside the AC unit itself, which is probable given the dampness in your studio. The unit's internal drip pan and cooling coils are a primary source of moisture and subsequent mold growth. A proper treatment requires a professional AC and duct cleaning service that includes applying an EPA-approved biocide to the system to inhibit regrowth.

For a verifiable result, the company should provide before-and-after documentation, such as lab test results showing a reduction in spore count. In Dubai, look for providers with DHA-approved certifications for public health pest control. Given the climate, an annual AC deep-clean is a prudent preventative measure for any apartment.
