How to clean black mold on bedroom wall in UAE?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a line of black, fuzzy mold growing along the bottom of the wall behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom. It's an interior wall, and the room always feels a bit more humid than the rest of the apartment in Silicon Oasis. What's the most effective way to clean this ourselves and is there a specific product available at ACE or Carrefour that actually works for UAE mold?

The black mold behind your wardrobe is a common issue in Dubai, especially in Silicon Oasis apartments where high humidity and reduced airflow create a perfect breeding ground. The most effective approach is to first address the moisture source—this is often condensation from your AC or a lack of ventilation in that specific corner.

For a small, localized patch, you can clean it yourself. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. Do not dry brush it, as this releases spores. Use a dedicated mold cleaner like HG Mould Spray, available at ACE Hardware, or a solution of white vinegar. Spray the area, let it sit for 15 minutes, then scrub with a stiff brush and wipe clean with a damp cloth. Ensure the area is completely dry afterward.

However, if the mold has penetrated the plaster or drywall, or if it covers an area larger than one square meter, surface cleaning is a temporary fix. The hidden moisture within the wall will cause it to return. In these cases, a professional inspection is necessary to identify the root cause, which could be a hidden pipe leak or significant condensation issues. A proper remediation involves removing affected materials to ensure it doesn't regrow. Given Dubai's climate, improving air circulation in that room is crucial to prevent recurrence.
