How to dehumidify a single bedroom in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page
|
The master bedroom in our villa in Jumeirah Park gets so damp overnight that the windows are completely fogged up by morning, and the wardrobe doors feel slightly wet to the touch. I’m worried this constant humidity is going to ruin our clothes and maybe even cause mold. We run the AC, but it doesn't seem to be enough. What's the most effective way to dehumidify just this one room without cooling the entire house down to an icebox?

This is a classic issue we see in Dubai villas, especially in master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. The AC, while cooling, often doesn't have sufficient latent cooling capacity to remove the high moisture load generated overnight from breathing and any residual bathroom humidity. The fogged windows and damp wardrobe are clear indicators that the relative humidity is far above the recommended 40-60% range per UAE health and safety guidelines, creating a prime environment for mold growth and property damage.
The most effective solution for a single room is a dedicated desiccant or compressor-based dehumidifier. For a master bedroom, a unit with a 10-12 litre per day extraction capacity should suffice. Ensure it's placed centrally and that the wardrobe doors are left slightly ajar to allow air circulation. Crucially, check that the door to the room is kept closed to isolate the space. Also, verify that your AC unit’s drain line isn't blocked and that the drip pan is functioning; a faulty AC can actually add moisture. However, persistent dampness, especially feeling moisture on surfaces, can be a symptom of a more serious issue like a minor plumbing leak in the ensuite or insufficient external wall insulation, which is common here given the extreme external humidity. I strongly recommend a professional inspection to rule these out. Our technicians use thermal imaging cameras and precise moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of the problem, which is often not where it appears.
