How to permanently fix mold in my closet from AC?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom closet on the inside wall has started showing black spots again, even after I had it professionally cleaned just a few months ago. We live in a Jumeirah villa and I think the problem might be coming from the AC unit, as that wall always feels a bit damp and cold. I'm worried it's affecting our clothes and health. What's the most effective way to fix the root cause and stop this mold from coming back for good?

The mold returning indicates the root cause wasn't resolved. In Dubai, this is almost always a combination of high humidity and a cold surface creating condensation inside the wall cavity. Your AC is likely the source.

The cold wall feeling suggests the AC's chilled air is leaking into the wall or the insulation within that wall is missing or compromised. This creates a perpetual cold spot where humid air condenses, providing the moisture mold needs to grow, even after surface cleaning.

A permanent fix requires a professional inspection to identify the moisture source. They will likely use a thermal imaging camera to find the exact cold spot and a moisture meter to confirm the dampness level inside the wall. The solution often involves accessing the area behind the closet to seal any gaps where cold air is escaping from the AC ductwork and ensuring proper insulation is installed to prevent the surface temperature from dropping below the dew point.

Until then, keep the closet doors open to improve air circulation and consider using a portable dehumidifier in the room to lower the ambient humidity, which can help reduce the rate of condensation. For health safety, move clothing and other items away from the affected wall immediately.
