How to permanently prevent mold in a Jumeirah villa closet?« Back to Previous Page
|
Our family villa in Jumeirah has persistent mold in the walk-in closet on the ground floor. It’s on the back wall and keeps coming back even after I wipe it down, especially after the humidity these past few weeks. I run the AC constantly but it doesn't seem to help that one room. What’s the most effective long-term solution to prevent this for good?

Persistent mold in a Jumeirah closet indicates a continuous moisture source that wiping alone cannot address. The most common culprit is a temperature differential between the cold back wall and the humid air, causing condensation—this is a frequent issue in Dubai's climate where exterior walls absorb heat while AC cools interiors.
First, verify the moisture source. A professional inspection with a thermal imaging camera can identify cold spots and condensation points invisible to the naked eye. For a long-term solution, you must control the humidity inside that enclosed space. Running the main AC may not sufficiently circulate dry air into a closed closet. Install a small, standalone dehumidifier inside the closet, or keep the closet door ajar to allow your home's AC to manage the humidity. Ensure the room's AC vents are fully open and not blocked by storage. For the wall itself, address the thermal bridging. Applying anti-condensation or thermal insulation paint to the interior wall surface can create a barrier, preventing the cold surface from meeting warm, moist air. Ensure there are no hidden leaks from plumbing in the wall or groundwater seepage from outside, which is a different issue altogether. Finally, after remediating the current growth with proper antimicrobial cleaning (not just wiping), a post-remediation verification test is the only way to confirm the spore count has returned to a normal level and the source has been resolved. This is a standard practice for verifiable results. |
