How to permanently remove bathroom mold in JVC apartment?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed this horrible black mold growing along the bottom edge of our bathroom ceiling in our Jumeirah Village Circle apartment. I think it's been spreading since the last time we ran the AC less frequently a couple of months ago. The room doesn't have a window and the extractor fan is pretty weak. What's the most effective way to kill this for good and who should I call to check the AC unit for causing the humidity?

Bathroom mold in JVC apartments is extremely common due to the high humidity and lack of ventilation. The weak extractor fan and AC usage patterns are almost certainly the root cause.
For a small, surface-level patch, a solution of white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover can be effective. Scrub the area, let it dry completely, and repaint with a mold-inhibiting primer and paint. However, if the mold has penetrated the ceiling board or covers a large area, professional remediation is needed to remove it safely and prevent spores from spreading to other rooms. The permanent fix requires addressing the humidity. Your weak extractor fan is a key issue; it should run for at least 20 minutes after each shower and may need to be replaced with a more powerful unit. Ensure the AC is running consistently, even when you're out, to maintain low humidity levels year-round. A HVAC specialist can inspect your unit to confirm it's dehumidifying properly and check for any internal mold growth. For a case like yours with recurring growth, the most effective approach is to have a professional assess the extent of the problem, properly remediate the existing mold, and identify all moisture sources. They can also conduct air quality testing to verify the spore count has returned to a safe level after cleanup. |
