How to permanently remove black mold from AC drip?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom’s AC unit in my Jumeirah Village Circle apartment has been dripping condensation onto the carpet for a couple of months, and now I’m seeing a patch of black mold spreading along the base of the wall. I’ve wiped it down with bleach, but it just comes back. What’s the most effective long-term solution to kill this mold for good and prevent it from returning, especially with our humid climate?

The recurring black mold from your AC drip indicates an ongoing moisture problem that bleach can't fix—it only removes surface discoloration. In Dubai's climate, the high humidity and constant AC use create perfect conditions for mold regrowth if the underlying issue isn't resolved.

First, stop the water source. The AC condensation drain line is likely clogged or disconnected, causing the continuous drip. A qualified HVAC technician should inspect and clear the line, ensure the drain pan is properly sloped, and check that the unit's insulation is intact to prevent future condensation.

For the existing mold, professional remediation is the most effective long-term solution. The wall and carpet have likely absorbed moisture, and mold can penetrate deep into porous materials. Remediation involves containing the area, removing contaminated materials like the affected carpet section and drywall, and using specialized antimicrobial treatments to address hidden growth. Simply wiping the surface will not eliminate the root colony.

To prevent recurrence, ensure your AC unit is serviced regularly to maintain proper drainage and efficiency. Consider using a dehumidifier in the bedroom, especially during more humid months, to keep relative humidity below 60%. Improving ventilation can also help, but in our sealed apartment environment, mechanical drying and AC maintenance are most critical.

For a case like this with visible, regrowing mold, a professional inspection is recommended to assess the full extent of the damage and provide a verified, permanent solution.
