How to permanently remove black mold from bedroom wall?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, fuzzy spots appearing on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe, which is on an exterior wall facing JLT. It’s gotten worse since the humidity spiked a couple of weeks ago. What’s the most effective way to get rid of it for good and stop it from coming back, or should I just call a professional cleaning company right away?

Based on your description of black, fuzzy spots on an exterior wall that have worsened with the recent humidity spike, this is a classic case of mold growth, extremely common in Dubai due to our high humidity levels and constant air conditioning use. The wall behind the wardrobe is a cold spot (thermal bridge), where condensation forms, providing the perfect damp environment for mold to thrive.

Permanent removal is a technical process, not a simple cleaning. For a small area, you can carefully clean it with a solution of detergent and water, but never use bleach as it only removes the color and can force spores into the air. However, the visible growth is only the tip of the iceberg; the hyphae (root system) penetrate the porous wall material. Scrubbing surface mold often disturbs it, releasing a high concentration of spores into your bedroom air, which is a significant health risk.

Given the location on an exterior wall and the fact it has returned, this indicates a persistent moisture issue that must be diagnosed and resolved. This is not a job for a general cleaning company. It requires a professional environmental inspection to identify the exact moisture source—whether it's condensation, a minor leak, or capillary action—and to assess the full extent of contamination within the wall cavity.

Our protocol at Saniservice involves contained removal of affected materials, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatment, and most critically, addressing the underlying moisture cause to prevent recurrence, in full compliance with Dubai Municipality's health and safety standards. For a permanent solution and to ensure your family's health, I strongly recommend a professional inspection.
