How to permanently remove black mold from closet wall?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a black, speckled mold growing on the back wall of our master bedroom closet. It's been incredibly humid lately and that wall is on the side facing the sea in our Marina apartment. I'm worried it's spreading. What's the most effective way to get rid of this for good, and should I call a professional company or is this a DIY job with bleach?

Based on your description—a black, speckled mold on an exterior wall facing the sea in the Marina—this is a serious moisture issue, not a simple surface problem. The high humidity, combined with a likely temperature differential between the air-conditioned interior and the warm exterior wall, is causing condensation within the wall cavity. This creates the perfect environment for mold to thrive, often from the inside out.

Using bleach is strongly discouraged. It is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall, as it only bleaches the surface mold while leaving the root structure intact. More critically, bleach is primarily water, which can actually feed the mold growth deeper within the wall and release harmful biotoxins into your air during application.

For a permanent solution, a professional inspection is non-negotiable. DIY methods will not address the hidden moisture source or the extent of the contamination. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging cameras to identify the exact condensation points and moisture meters to determine the water content within the wall. This diagnosis is critical.

The remediation process we employ is technical and follows IICRC standards. It involves isolating the area with negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination, safely removing and disposing of the affected drywall and insulation, HEPA vacuuming all surfaces, and applying specialized antimicrobial agents to eliminate the mold at its root. Finally, the root cause—the condensation—must be solved, often with improved ventilation or a vapor barrier.

Given the climate in Dubai and the potential health risks, I recommend you call our team for a comprehensive assessment. Please contact Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
