How to permanently remove black mold in Jumeirah bedroom?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom in Jumeirah. It must have been there a while, hidden by the furniture, and the room has started to feel damp even with the AC on. What's the best way to get rid of it properly and make sure it doesn't come back?

Black mold behind furniture in Jumeirah is a common issue due to our high humidity and the condensation cycles of AC units. The first step is to identify and stop the moisture source. Since the room feels damp, the issue is likely persistent ambient humidity or a hidden condensation leak, possibly from an AC drain line or a poorly insulated external wall.

For a patch smaller than one square meter, you can clean it yourself with a detergent solution, but never use bleach as it only removes the colour and can worsen airborne spores. However, given it was hidden for two years, the growth within the wall cavity is likely more extensive than what is visible. Scrubbing surface mold without addressing the root cause and the contaminated porous materials (like drywall or plaster) will guarantee its return.

Professional assessment is strongly recommended here. A proper inspection uses moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the exact water source and the full extent of the infestation behind the wall. Permanent removal requires isolating the area, removing and replacing any water-damaged porous building materials, and HEPA vacuuming all surfaces. The underlying humidity issue must then be resolved, often by repairing AC condensate drains, improving room ventilation, or installing a dedicated dehumidifier to maintain humidity below 50%.

To ensure it doesn’t come back, request a post-remediation verification test from an independent third-party. This provides documented, lab-certified evidence that the spore count inside the treated area is now lower than the baseline level found outside in Dubai’s air. This is the only way to confirm a permanent solution.
