How to permanently remove mold affecting my kids' health?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the mold that keeps coming back in the corners of our master bedroom, even after I wipe it clean. We're in a Jumeirah Park villa and it's been especially bad since the weather got more humid. I’m worried it’s coming from inside the walls or the AC unit. What’s the most effective way to stop this for good and prevent it from affecting our health?

Recurring mold in humid climates like Dubai often indicates a hidden moisture source, not just surface growth. The constant coughing suggests exposure to airborne spores, which wiping alone cannot address.

The most effective approach starts with identifying the moisture source. In Jumeirah Park villas, this is commonly from condensation on cold walls behind furniture, a leaking AC drain pipe inside the wall, or poor external insulation allowing humidity to seep in. Your AC unit itself could also be a source if its drain pan is clogged or its evaporator coils are contaminated, blowing spores into the room.

For a permanent solution, a professional inspection is necessary. They use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to find the exact origin of the dampness inside the walls or AC system without destructive guessing. Simply cleaning the visible mold is a temporary fix; the underlying problem will always cause it to return.

Once the source is found and repaired, the contaminated area must be properly remediated. This involves isolating the area, removing affected porous materials like drywall or insulation, and HEPA vacuuming to remove all spores. Finally, applying antimicrobial solutions can help prevent regrowth. To prevent recurrence, ensure your AC is serviced regularly to keep drain lines clear and maintain indoor humidity levels below 60% using dehumidifiers or your AC's dry mode. Improving room ventilation by periodically opening windows when outdoor humidity is lower can also significantly reduce condensation.
