How to permanently remove mold from closet corner myself??« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots appearing in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we keep our winter clothes. It’s on the wall that faces the outside, and it's been worse since all that heavy dew we had last week. What’s the most effective way to get rid of this for good, and should I call one of those professional mold removal companies or is it something I can handle myself with local products from ACE?

The black spots in your closet corner are a classic Dubai issue, caused by a combination of high outdoor humidity, cold air from your AC, and the outside-facing wall creating a "cold bridge" where condensation forms. For a small area (under one square meter), you can handle this yourself.

Start by addressing the moisture source. The condensation on that wall is feeding the mold. Improve air circulation around the closet; a small battery-operated dehumidifier or silica gel packs inside can help. For cleaning, wear a mask and gloves. Scrub the area with a mixture of white vinegar and water or a dedicated mold remover from ACE. Bleach is not recommended as it only removes the surface colour and does not kill the roots.

After cleaning, the wall must be completely dry. Use a fan to accelerate drying. To prevent recurrence, consider applying an anti-mold primer before repainting.

If the mold returns quickly, covers a larger area, or has a musty smell, the issue is likely inside the wall cavity. In this case, a professional inspection is necessary to identify the full extent and source of moisture. Companies with their own microbiology lab can identify the species, which dictates the proper remediation protocol to ensure it's resolved permanently.
