How to permanently stop black mold in Dubai AC bedroom?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it’s from the black mold spots that keep appearing in the corners of their bedroom, especially behind the wardrobe. We’re in an older building in Bur Dubai and it seems to get worse whenever we run the AC non-stop during the summer. I wipe it away with bleach, but it just comes back a few weeks later. What’s the most effective long-term solution to stop this mold from growing back for good?

Black mold recurrence in Bur Dubai's older buildings is common due to high humidity and AC-induced condensation. Bleach only removes surface discoloration; it doesn't address the moisture source or kill the root structure.

The most effective long-term solution requires a multi-step approach. First, identify and fix the moisture source. In AC bedrooms, this is often condensation from cold walls meeting warm, humid air or a small leak from the AC unit's drain line or insulation. Moving the wardrobe away from the wall is critical, as it traps humidity and creates a perfect breeding ground. Improving air circulation with a small fan can drastically reduce dampness in those corners.

For a permanent fix, professional inspection is advised for cases that reappear despite cleaning. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to pinpoint hidden condensation issues or leaks that aren't visible. Remediation involves cleaning with specialized antimicrobial agents designed for porous surfaces, not just bleach.

Finally, consider applying a mold-resistant coating to the treated areas to prevent regrowth. Managing indoor humidity with a dehumidifier, especially during peak summer months when ACs run constantly, is often necessary to keep levels below 60% and create an environment where mold cannot thrive.
