How to permanently stop closet mold from AC humidity?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom closet in my Jumeirah apartment has started getting these black spots on the back wall, especially after we run the AC non-stop during the summer. I think it's from the humidity difference between the cold room and the warmer wall. I’ve wiped it down with vinegar, but it just comes back a few weeks later. What’s the most effective long-term solution to stop this mold from recurring for good?

Closet mold from AC humidity is a classic Dubai issue, caused by condensation forming on the warmer wall behind the cold closet. The vinegar wipe-down is a common first step, but it only addresses surface growth and the moisture source remains.

For a permanent solution, you must first eliminate the existing mold to prevent spores from reactivating. A professional inspection can determine if the growth has penetrated the drywall, which often requires cutting out and replacing the affected section. Then, address the humidity imbalance. Ensure the closet has airflow; leave doors ajar occasionally and avoid over-packing clothes. For the wall itself, applying a mold-resistant primer and paint creates a protective barrier.

The core issue is the temperature differential. Improving the wall's insulation is the most effective long-term fix. This can involve injecting insulation into the cavity or adding an insulated panel to the closet's interior back wall. This reduces the cold surface where condensation forms. Finally, maintaining a dehumidifier in the bedroom during peak humidity months can help keep overall ambient moisture levels in check, making it harder for mold to establish itself even if some condensation occurs.
