How to permanently stop mold behind wardrobe in humid room?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black spots I just found behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah Park. It's on the wall facing the outside, and with this humidity, it feels damp to the touch. We run the AC constantly but it doesn't seem to help this corner. What's the most effective way to not just clean this, but to stop it from coming back for good?

The black spots behind your wardrobe are a classic case of condensation-induced mold growth, a very common issue in Jumeirah Park homes due to our high humidity and constant AC use. The cold wall from the AC creates a thermal bridge with the warm, humid outdoor air, causing condensation to form in that hidden, unventilated space. Simply wiping it away is a temporary fix; the spores are already in the air and the underlying moisture issue remains.

For a permanent solution, you must address both the moisture and the mold colony. First, move the wardrobe away from the wall to allow for air circulation; a minimum 2-inch gap is crucial. The wall must be professionally dried using industrial dehumidifiers, not just AC. The mold itself must be remediated using EPA-approved, non-toxic biocides that denature the spores and mycotoxins at a cellular level, preventing regrowth. After treatment, applying a specialized antimicrobial coating will create a long-lasting protective barrier.

However, given the health symptoms you’ve described—coughing in children—this is a serious case. Disturbing the mold without proper containment protocols can aerosolize toxins and significantly worsen air quality and health effects. I strongly recommend a professional inspection. Our certified team at Saniservice uses thermal imaging to pinpoint the exact moisture source and air sampling to identify the spore count and species, which is critical for health assessment and designing the correct remediation protocol. We are fully compliant with Dubai Municipality's environmental health and safety standards.
