How to permanently stop mold in humid bedroom closet?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom closet on the outside wall has started getting a fuzzy black mold on our leather shoes and bags. It's been crazy humid the last few weeks and even with the AC running, that corner just feels damp and cold. We had a company come and clean it last year but it’s already back. What's the most effective long-term solution to stop this from happening again, like a specific dehumidifier or should we look into sealing the wall?

The recurrence of black mold in your bedroom closet, particularly on leather goods, points to a persistent moisture issue that superficial cleaning cannot address. Given Dubai's extreme humidity and the year-round reliance on AC, this is a common but serious problem. The damp, cold feeling indicates condensation, likely due to a thermal bridge on the outside wall where the cold interior meets the warm, humid exterior air.

The most effective long-term solution is a multi-faceted approach. First, a professional inspection is non-negotiable. Our certified technicians use thermal imaging cameras to pinpoint the exact location and cause of the condensation and moisture intrusion, which is crucial for a permanent fix. DIY methods or a simple clean will always fail.

Based on the inspection, the solution will involve a combination of remediation and environmental control. This includes:
1. Source Removal: Professional antimicrobial remediation of the affected area and contents to eliminate the existing colony.
2. Correcting the Thermal Bridge: This may involve injecting insulation into the wall cavity or applying an internal insulating layer to prevent condensation from forming.
3. Environmental Control: Installing a dedicated, compact dehumidifier designed for UAE conditions is essential. We recommend units with auto-drainage and humidistats to maintain humidity levels below 55%, the threshold for mold growth.

Given the health risks and property damage, this is not a project for general cleaners. For a definitive diagnosis and a warranty-backed solution, I strongly advise you to contact our team for a comprehensive assessment.
