How to permanently stop mold on humid sea-facing bedroom carpets?« Back to Previous Page

Our villa in Jumeirah has persistent black spots growing along the edges of the bedroom carpets, especially on the wall facing the sea. I’m constantly wiping down the windows from the condensation in the morning, but I think the humidity is still getting trapped. What’s the best way to stop this mold from coming back for good?

Sea-facing villas in Jumeirah battle extreme humidity and condensation year-round, making recurring mold on carpets a common structural issue. The black spots are a symptom of trapped moisture, not just a surface problem.

Permanent resolution requires addressing the source. First, manage the indoor humidity. Ensure your AC is running efficiently and set to a consistent temperature, ideally between 22-24°C, to reduce condensation on cold surfaces like windows and external walls. Use a dehumidifier in the bedroom, especially during the more humid overnight and early morning hours. Improving air circulation with fans can also help prevent stagnant, moist air from settling into the carpets.

The wall itself is likely a thermal bridge, where the cold exterior temperature meets the warm interior, creating a perfect environment for condensation you cannot see behind the carpet. This is the core issue. For a lasting fix, the carpet and underlay should be pulled back from the affected wall to allow the area to be professionally inspected, dried, and treated. The wall may need its insulation or vapour barrier improved to prevent the recurring cold surface.

For severe or recurring cases, a professional inspection is necessary to assess the wall's condition and identify any hidden moisture within the structure. In the UAE, remediation should align with DM guidelines and DHA standards for healthy indoor environments. A proper remediation plan, not just surface cleaning, is what stops it from coming back for good.
