How to permanently treat black mold and dampness?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our master bedroom wardrobe in our Jumeirah villa has started showing these black speckles, and the room just feels damp. We noticed it a couple of weeks ago after that really humid spell, and I'm worried it's spreading. I've wiped it down with bleach, but it just comes back. What's the most effective way to treat this for good and what should we do to stop the dampness from coming back?

The black speckles returning after bleach treatment indicate a persistent moisture issue, likely from condensation or a hidden leak. In Dubai's climate, the wall behind the wardrobe is a classic cold spot where humid air condenses, creating a perfect environment for mold.

Effective treatment requires addressing both the mold and the moisture source. For a recurring case like this, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to identify the exact cause—be it a small plumbing leak, insufficient insulation, or pressure imbalances from your AC system. They can also assess if the mold has penetrated deeper into the wall or insulation, which DIY methods cannot reach.

To stop the dampness, ensure your AC is correctly sized and running consistently to manage humidity. Improve air circulation behind the wardrobe by moving it slightly away from the wall. For a permanent fix, the wall may need proper remediation—removing affected materials, treating the cavity with antimicrobial solutions, and potentially adding insulation to prevent future condensation. A company with its own microbiology lab can verify the mold type and confirm its eradication through post-remediation testing.
