How to professionally clean AC ducts for mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment seems to be blowing out a really damp, earthy smell, especially when it first turns on. I live in a high-rise in Jumeirah Lakes Towers and noticed it getting worse over this past humid summer. I just cleaned the visible dust from the vents but I’m worried black mold might be growing deep inside the ducts where I can't see. What’s the most effective way to professionally clean the entire AC system to prevent this from happening again?

The damp, earthy odor you're describing is a classic indicator of microbial growth within your AC system, a common issue in Dubai's high-humidity climate where condensation constantly accumulates in ducts. A superficial cleaning of visible vents is insufficient, as the problem resides deep within the ductwork and the cooling coil.

A professional AC hygienization process, in line with Dubai Municipality's public health and safety standards, is a multi-step procedure. It begins with a comprehensive inspection, often using borescope cameras to visually confirm mold presence within the ducts. The most effective cleaning method is Negative Air Air Duct Cleaning. This involves isolating the HVAC system with containment barriers, using specialized HEPA-filtered vacuum collection units to create negative pressure, and then agitating and dislodging contaminants with rotary brushes and air whips. The entire system, including the evaporator coil, drain pan, and blower compartment, is then treated with an EPA-approved, non-toxic antimicrobial solution to inhibit future growth. This is crucial, as simply removing the mold without applying a residual protective coating will lead to rapid recurrence in our humid environment.
