How to professionally remove mold from my bathroom wall?« Back to Previous Page

My ensuite bathroom in our JBR apartment has always been humid, but I just pulled back the vanity cabinet and the wall behind it is covered in black and green fuzzy mold. It's been getting worse since the weather got really hot and we've had the AC running non-stop. I’m really worried about it spreading and what it means for our health. What’s the best way to get this professionally cleaned and treated to make sure it doesn't come back?

First, stop using that bathroom to prevent spore disturbance and isolate the area. In Dubai's high humidity, bathroom mold behind a vanity is common due to condensation from cold pipes meeting warm air and potential hidden leaks.

For extensive growth like this, professional remediation is strongly advised. The process should start with a detailed inspection, often using a moisture meter to find the water source—it could be a leaking pipe, sealant failure, or condensation. The contaminated drywall or plaster may need to be removed and replaced, not just cleaned. Certified technicians will then HEPA-vacuum all spores, treat the area with antimicrobial solutions, and address the root moisture issue.

Crucially, the vanity should not be reinstalled flush against the wall. A small gap for airflow is necessary to prevent recurrence. Running the bathroom exhaust fan for 20-30 minutes after every shower is essential to manage the humidity that AC alone cannot handle.

For verification, a reputable company will provide before-and-after documentation and can arrange for post-remediation testing to confirm the spore count has returned to safe levels. This is the standard for ensuring the mold is resolved and not just temporarily hidden.
