How to professionally treat black mold in Dubai safely?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black mold I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it when I was rearranging furniture; it's a pretty big patch on the wall and the baseboard. I think it might be from a slow leak in the AC condensation pipe. What's the best way to get this professionally treated here in Dubai without getting ripped off?

Black mold requires professional remediation in Dubai's climate, as improper handling can spread spores. The high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for it to return if not addressed correctly.

First, identify and fix the moisture source—likely a clogged AC condensate drain line, which is extremely common here. Do not attempt to scrub or bleach it yourself. Isolate the area by closing the door and covering the vent with plastic sheeting to prevent spores from circulating through your AC system.

Hire a company that follows IICRC S520 standards for mold remediation. The critical steps they must take are: setting up containment with negative air pressure, HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, safe removal of contaminated porous materials (like that baseboard and possibly drywall), and HEPA vacuuming and wiping of all surfaces. Crucially, they should provide a post-remediation verification test from an independent, accredited lab to confirm spore counts are back to normal indoor levels. This verifiable proof is your protection against ineffective work.

Avoid companies that just spray a biocide and leave. Request their methodology upfront and ask to see a sample report of their clearance testing. For a case involving children's health, a full inspection to rule out hidden growth in the AC system or other areas is strongly recommended.
