How to properly remove mold behind furniture in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah Village Circle. It's been really humid lately and I'm worried it's mold. What's the best way to get rid of this properly without having to move all our furniture out?

The black spots behind your wardrobe in JVC are almost certainly mold, a very common issue here due to our high humidity and condensation from constant AC use. The first step is to move the furniture away from the wall to assess the full extent and allow the area to dry completely. This is non-negotiable; you cannot remediate mold properly without access.

For a small area (under one square meter), you can clean it yourself with a solution of diluted white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. Scrub the area thoroughly, but be cautious as aggressive scrubbing can release a large number of spores into your air. The critical step is to identify and address the moisture source. In Dubai, this is often condensation from an AC unit, a leak from an adjacent bathroom, or simply humid air trapped against a cold wall with no airflow.

If the mold covers a larger area, has a musty odor, or returns after cleaning, professional assessment is strongly recommended. DIY methods often fail to address the root cause. A proper inspection uses moisture meters and thermal imaging to find hidden dampness and lab analysis to identify the mold species, which dictates the correct remediation protocol. Professionals will also use containment and air scrubbers to prevent cross-contamination while cleaning, which is crucial when the mold is in a bedroom. For a situation behind furniture where the full extent is unknown, an expert evaluation is the most reliable way to ensure it's resolved completely.
