How to remove and prevent black mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Jumeirah for two years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which has gotten worse since the recent humid weather. My youngest son's asthma has been really flaring up, especially at night. I’m worried the mold is the trigger and I want to get rid of it for good. What's the most effective way to clean this and prevent it from coming back in our Dubai climate?

Living in Jumeirah, that humid sea air is a major contributor to your mold issue. The black patch in your closet is a serious concern, especially with your son's asthma flare-ups. Mold spores are a well-known and potent asthma trigger.

First, safety: Do NOT attempt to clean this yourself with bleach or store-bought sprays. Disturbing the mold without proper containment will aerosolize the spores, potentially making your son's asthma much worse. For any visible patch, and especially with a health issue present, professional assessment is non-negotiable.

The most effective way to remove it for good is a certified remediation process. We follow strict UAE standards (similar to IICRC S520) which involves:
1. Setting up physical containment and negative air pressure with HEPA-filtered air scrubbers to prevent cross-contamination.
2. HEPA vacuuming and antimicrobial treatment of the affected materials.
3. Removing and properly disposing of any porous materials like contaminated drywall or insulation that cannot be cleaned.
4. A final clearance test to confirm spore counts are back to safe, background levels. This is the only way to be sure it's truly gone.

Prevention is key in our climate. After remediation, you must address the source of the moisture. This likely involves improving ventilation in that closet (a small vent door might help), using a high-capacity desiccant dehumidifier in the bedroom, and possibly an assessment of the external wall for any hidden ingress points from the humidity.

Given your son's health, I strongly recommend a professional inspection and remediation. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com so we can schedule a thorough assessment and protect your familys health.
