How to remove and prevent black mold in Jumeirah?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, fuzzy spots spreading along the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah Village Circle. It's been incredibly humid the last few weeks and I think the lack of air circulation back there caused it. What's the best way to get rid of this properly and stop it from coming back?

The black, fuzzy spots behind your wardrobe are a classic sign of mold growth, almost certainly triggered by Dubai's high humidity and the stagnant air pocket created by the furniture. This is a very common issue in JVC and similar villas.
For removal, first address the moisture source. Move the wardrobe away from the wall to allow for air circulation. Small, surface-level mold (under one square meter) can often be cleaned by a homeowner using a solution of diluted white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover. Wear an N95 mask and gloves during cleaning to avoid inhaling spores. Do not simply paint over it, as the mold will regrow. However, given that it's spreading and located in a bedroom, professional assessment is strongly recommended. The wall itself may be holding moisture, and the mold could be more extensive than visible. A proper inspection, often involving a moisture meter, can determine the root cause—whether it's condensation from the AC, a small hidden leak, or humidity permeating the wall. To prevent recurrence, you must improve ventilation. Keep furniture a few inches away from walls. Use a dehumidifier in the room, especially during the more humid months. Ensure your AC unit is serviced regularly and set to a temperature that reduces condensation. In many villas, the most effective long-term solution is installing positive pressure ventilation systems, which are designed for the UAE climate to push humid air out and keep walls dry. |
