How to remove and prevent mold in my Mirdif villa?« Back to Previous Page
|
We've lived in our villa in Mirdif for two years and just noticed some black spots forming in the corner of our master bedroom closet, on the wall that faces the outside. It’s been worse since the recent humidity, and I'm worried it's affecting my sleep as I've been waking up with a stuffy nose. What's the best way to treat this existing mold and, more importantly, how can I stop it from coming back for good?

The black spots in your Mirdif villa's closet are a common issue here, often triggered by the high humidity we've had. The stuffy nose you're experiencing is a typical reaction to mold spores in the air. To manage it, first address the existing growth safely. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. For a small area, scrub with a mixture of white vinegar and water or a dedicated mold-cleaning solution; avoid bleach as it doesn't prevent regrowth. Dry the area thoroughly immediately after.
Preventing its return is the critical part. This mold is almost certainly due to condensation from the temperature difference between your air-conditioned room and the hot exterior wall. To stop it for good, you must reduce the humidity and improve air circulation. Keep the closet doors slightly ajar and ensure nothing is pushed tightly against the outside wall. A small disposable dehumidifier pouch placed inside the closet can help absorb excess moisture. For a permanent solution, consider having a professional assess the villa's insulation on that specific exterior wall, as inadequate insulation is a frequent cause. They can also check that your AC unit is properly sized and functioning to effectively manage indoor humidity levels, which should ideally be kept below 60%. If the problem persists or covers more than a square meter, a professional inspection is recommended to identify any hidden moisture sources and provide targeted remediation. |
