How to remove and prevent mold on interior wall?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots growing along the bottom of the wall behind our sofa. It's on an interior wall that faces the garden, and I'm worried it's from all the humidity we had last month. What's the best way to clean this and stop it from coming back for good?

The black spots you're describing on your interior wall in Jumeirah are a classic symptom of a mold issue, exacerbated by the recent high humidity and the significant temperature differential between your air-conditioned villa and the warm, moist outdoor air. This creates condensation, particularly on exterior-facing walls, providing the perfect environment for mold growth.

Do not attempt to clean this with bleach, as it only removes surface discoloration and does not address the root cause or the underlying hyphae (root structure). For a small area, a solution of distilled white vinegar or a proprietary mold-cleaning agent applied with a microfiber cloth can be used for surface remediation. However, given the location (behind a sofa, on an exterior wall), the problem is likely more extensive than what is visible. The mold may have penetrated the plasterboard or insulation.

Permanent prevention requires addressing the moisture source. This involves identifying the dew point and improving the wall's thermal performance to prevent condensation, potentially through professional-grade dehumidification and improving air circulation in the room. In Dubai's climate, where HVAC systems run year-round, ensuring your AC is correctly sized and maintained to manage humidity levels is critical.

For a definitive solution, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. Our certified team at Saniservice uses thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact moisture source and extent of contamination, in full compliance with Dubai Municipality's health and safety standards. We then execute a controlled remediation protocol to remove the mold safely and apply long-lasting antimicrobial coatings to prevent recurrence.
