How to remove bathroom mold in humid Dubai climate?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah apartment for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading in the grout between the wall tiles behind the toilet. It’s been really humid lately and I’m worried it’s more than just surface level. What’s the most effective way to tackle this kind of bathroom mold in our climate?

Black grout mold in a Dubai bathroom is almost always due to condensation and high humidity, not a leak. The constant switching between AC-cooled air and the steamy, humid environment from showers creates perfect conditions for it.
For surface-level mold on non-porous tile, a dedicated bathroom mold remover or a paste of baking soda and vinegar can be effective. Scrub with a stiff brush, then rinse thoroughly. The key is managing humidity. Run the bathroom exhaust fan for at least 30 minutes after every shower and keep the door open to allow moisture to escape. A squeegee on walls after showering also removes the water mold needs to grow. If the mold returns quickly, has a musty odor, or you see staining on the ceiling or walls, it may be growing behind the tiles. In this climate, trapped moisture within the wall is common. Scrubbing surface growth won't solve the underlying problem. In such cases, a professional inspection with a moisture meter can identify if there's a hidden issue that requires remediation to prevent structural damage and potential health effects from prolonged spore exposure. |
