How to remove black mold from bedroom wall in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the corner of our master bedroom wall, behind the wardrobe. It’s an interior wall, and with all the humidity lately in Dubai, I’m worried it’s getting worse. What’s the most effective way to deal with this kind of mold in our villa without having to call in a professional team right away?

That's a classic sign of a humidity-related mold issue, very common in Dubai villas, especially on exterior walls or poorly ventilated corners. The most effective initial approach is a combination of moisture control and targeted cleaning.
First, identify and address the moisture source. In your case, the wall behind the wardrobe is a dead air space where humid air gets trapped and condenses. Pull the wardrobe away from the wall to allow air circulation. Check if this is an exterior wall; if so, insufficient insulation could be causing condensation from the temperature differential between the air-conditioned room and the hot outside. Run a dehumidifier in the room, as the general indoor humidity is likely too high. Ensure your AC unit is set to a consistently cool temperature and that its drain line is not blocked, as this can contribute to indoor humidity. For the mold itself, wear an N95 mask and gloves. For a small area, scrub the affected wall with a solution of white vinegar or a diluted bleach mixture (one part bleach to four parts water). Let the solution sit for 15 minutes before scrubbing and wiping clean. Thoroughly dry the area immediately afterward with a fan. Do not simply paint over it, as the mold will regrow. This method is suitable for surface mold on non-porous surfaces like paint. If the mold has penetrated the drywall or plaster, or if the affected area is larger than one square meter, the wall material itself may need to be removed and replaced. For persistent regrowth or a large infestation, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to accurately identify the mold species and the full extent of the moisture issue, which often requires specialized equipment. |
