How to remove black mold from wall in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black, fuzzy spots spreading along the wall behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom. I think it might be from a small AC leak we had fixed a few months ago, but it's gotten way worse since the recent humidity. What is the most effective way to get rid of this black mold for good here in Dubai, and should I call a professional company or is it something I can handle myself with local products?

Black mold growth behind furniture is a common issue in Dubai due to high humidity and condensation from AC units. The first step is to identify and stop the moisture source; since you had a leak, ensure it is completely sealed and that the wall cavity is now dry. For a small, surface-level patch (less than one square meter), you can often handle it yourself.

Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and eye protection. Isolate the area and clean the visible mold with a detergent solution or a dedicated UAE-available antifungal cleaner. However, since the mold is behind a wardrobe and has been spreading, the moisture has likely penetrated the plasterboard or paint, making a DIY fix temporary. The mold will almost certainly return if the underlying dampness isn't fully resolved.

For persistent or recurring growth, a professional inspection is recommended. They use moisture meters to find hidden dampness you can't see and can determine if the wall material itself needs replacement. In many Dubai villas, the constant cycle of AC cooling and external heat creates condensation inside walls, which requires more than surface cleaning. A reputable provider will offer before-and-after testing to verify the mold species is addressed and that the environment is returned to a dry, stable state.
