How to remove mold behind wardrobe in humid climate?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah. I think it’s from all the humidity we’ve had lately, especially with the AC running constantly. What’s the best way to get rid of this mold for good without having to call in a professional crew right away?

Black spots behind furniture in Jumeirah are a common issue due to our high humidity and constant AC use, which creates condensation on cooler walls. The first step is to move the wardrobe away from the wall to allow air circulation and assess the full extent.

For a small, surface-level patch (less than one square meter), you can clean it yourself. Wear an N95 mask and gloves. Use a microfiber cloth with a solution of white vinegar or a diluted bleach mixture (one part bleach to four parts water). Scrub the area gently, then dry it thoroughly with a fan. Do not simply paint over it, as the mold will bleed through.

However, mold behind furniture often indicates a more significant moisture problem. The wall itself could be damp from condensation or a minor leak. After cleaning, monitor the area daily. If the spots return within a week, the moisture source is still active and the mold is likely growing deeper within the wall material.

In Dubai's climate, a recurring mold problem almost always requires professional assessment to identify and rectify the root cause, which is typically poor ventilation or thermal bridging causing condensation. For a persistent issue, a certified inspection with moisture mapping can pinpoint the exact source of dampness that needs to be resolved for a permanent fix.
