How to remove mold behind wardrobe in humid weather?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah. It’s been really humid lately and I think the lack of air circulation caused it. What’s the best way to get rid of this mold for good without having to call a professional company right away?

The black spots behind your wardrobe are a classic Dubai issue—high humidity combined with poor air circulation creates a perfect breeding ground for mold. Start by moving the wardrobe away from the wall to fully expose the area and improve airflow.

For cleaning, wear an N95 mask and gloves. Scrub the affected wall with a mixture of white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover, then wipe it down with a damp cloth and allow it to dry completely. Avoid using bleach, as it only removes the surface discoloration and doesn't address the root cause.

To prevent it from returning, you must control the humidity. Run a dehumidifier in the bedroom, ensure your AC is set to a consistent, cool temperature to reduce condensation, and leave a small gap between the wardrobe and the wall to allow air to circulate. In many cases, this DIY approach can resolve the issue.

However, if the mold has spread significantly (covering more than a square meter), has penetrated deeply into the drywall, or returns quickly after cleaning, the problem may be more extensive than what's visible. At that point, a professional inspection is advised to check for hidden moisture sources and identify the mold species, as some types common in humid climates can be more persistent and require targeted remediation.
