How to remove mold behind wardrobe permanently myself?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe. It’s on the wall that faces the outside, and with all the humidity lately, it’s gotten worse. What’s the most effective way to deal with this mold for good, and should I call a professional cleaning company or is it something I can handle myself with products from ACE?

That black mold behind your wardrobe is a classic Dubai issue, caused by thermal bridging. The outside wall gets hot, your air-conditioned room is cold, and condensation forms inside the wall, creating a perfect damp environment for mold to grow. Simply cleaning the visible spots won't stop it from returning.
For a permanent DIY solution, you must first move the wardrobe to fully expose the wall and allow it to dry completely. Scrub the affected area with a dedicated mold remover solution (available at ACE) or a mixture of white vinegar and water. Wear an N95 mask and gloves during this process. However, the critical step is addressing the moisture source. After cleaning, apply a high-quality antifungal paint or sealer to the entire wall to create a moisture barrier. Be cautious; if the mold covers a large area (more than one square meter) or has a strong, musty odor, it indicates a more serious infestation within the wall cavity. In these cases, or if it returns after your cleaning attempt, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to identify the exact condensation points and ensure the root cause is resolved, which is often necessary for a permanent fix in our climate. |
