I've been dealing with mold in my Dubai apartment for a few weeks now. Has anyone else experienced this? Looking for advice on what steps to take.

Mold in Dubai apartments is extremely common due to the high humidity and constant air conditioning use, which creates condensation. For small, visible patches (under one square meter), you can clean it yourself with a solution of white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover. Wear a mask and gloves, and ensure the area is well-ventilated.

However, if the mold is widespread, recurring after cleaning, or you notice a persistent musty smell, the surface cleaning is only addressing the symptom. The root cause is likely excess moisture. In Dubai's climate, this often stems from AC units set too cold, leaking AC drain lines, poor ventilation in bathrooms, or hidden condensation within wall cavities.

For recurring or large-scale issues, a professional inspection is necessary. They will use moisture meters and thermal imaging to find the hidden water source that's feeding the mold growth. Simply wiping it away without fixing the moisture problem will guarantee its return.

In serious cases, lab testing can identify the mold species, which is important for assessing risk and guiding the proper remediation protocol. Look for providers who can show documented before-and-after results and are aligned with local standards. The key is not just removal but identifying and resolving the underlying moisture issue to prevent it from coming back.
