How to safely remove mold from my villa's storage room?« Back to Previous Page

Our family villa in Mirdif has been feeling really humid ever since the heavy rains we had a couple of weeks ago. I just pulled out the winter clothes from the storage room downstairs and found a bunch of my kids' jackets with fuzzy black spots all over them. I’m really worried about their health, especially my youngest who already has allergies. What is the safest and most effective way to get this mold out of a whole room without making the spores go everywhere in the house?

Mold removal in a Dubai villa after heavy rains requires a methodical approach to prevent spreading spores. Start by isolating the room—close all doors and seal the gap underneath with tape or towels. Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and goggles.

Ventilation is critical. Open any windows in the room to the outside, but keep interior doors to the rest of the house closed. Place a fan in the window blowing outwards to create negative pressure, which pulls spores outside instead of into your home.

For the moldy fabrics, carefully bag the clothing in sealed plastic bags and take them outside to be discarded or professionally cleaned. Hard surfaces can be wiped with a diluted detergent solution. Avoid bleach; it doesn't kill mold roots and its fumes are hazardous in enclosed spaces.

The high humidity is the root cause. After cleaning, run a high-capacity dehumidifier in the room for several days to dry it out completely. In Dubai's climate, this step is non-negotiable to prevent immediate regrowth.

For a large-scale infestation or due to your child's allergies, a professional inspection is strongly advised. They can identify hidden moisture sources in walls or under flooring and perform targeted remediation. A company with its own microbiology lab can also test to identify the mold species, which informs the safest removal protocol and confirms the cleanup was successful.
