How to stop closet mold from humidity in Mirdif long-term?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom closet on the outside wall of our villa in Mirdif has started getting this black speckled mold on my shoes and bags. It’s definitely worse since the humidity spiked a couple of weeks ago, and I’m worried it’s spreading. Besides running a dehumidifier, what’s the most effective long-term solution to stop this moisture from getting in and ruining our stuff?

Closet mold on an exterior wall in Mirdif is a classic symptom of condensation from the temperature difference between your air-conditioned room and the hot, humid outside air. A dehumidifier manages ambient humidity, but the long-term fix requires addressing this thermal bridging.

First, improve air circulation inside the closet. Leave doors ajar, and consider installing a small, louvered door or ventilation grilles to allow conditioned air to flow in. Storing items away from the exterior wall by a few inches can also help. For the wall itself, inspect the sealing around windows, doors, and any penetrations on that exterior side; recaulking with a high-quality, weather-resistant sealant is often needed.

The most effective permanent solution is often insulating the interior surface of that external wall. This creates a thermal break, preventing the cold interior air from contacting the warm surface and forming condensation. A professional assessment is key here to identify if there's an underlying leak or to recommend the correct insulation type and installation method to prevent future moisture buildup without creating new issues. In many Dubai villas, this is the definitive fix for persistent mold on exterior walls.
