How to treat black mold on wall in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom. It’s an interior wall, and the room always feels a bit damp even with the AC running. What's the best way to get this professionally treated in Dubai without getting ripped off?

Black mold on an interior wall, especially behind furniture, points to a persistent moisture issue. In Dubai's climate, this is often condensation from the AC unit's cold air hitting the warmer wall surface, creating a damp microclimate. The first step is to move the wardrobe away from the wall to allow air circulation.

For professional treatment, start with a certified inspection. Reputable companies use moisture meters and thermal imaging to pinpoint the exact water source—whether it's a hidden pipe leak, rising damp, or condensation. They should provide a clear, written assessment and scope of work before any treatment begins.

The remediation process itself should be contained. Expect technicians to seal off the area with plastic sheeting, use HEPA-filtered air scrubbers to prevent spore spread, and physically remove the moldy material (e.g., cutting out affected drywall or plaster). They will then HEPA-vacuum and treat the area with EPA-approved antimicrobial solutions. Simply spraying bleach or painting over it will not solve the underlying problem and the mold will return.

To avoid substandard work, any company you hire should be able to provide documentation of their technicians' certifications (like IICRC) and, crucially, provide before-and-after lab air or surface sample results to verify the mold types and that counts have been reduced to safe levels. This verifiable proof is your best protection. Finally, they must identify and rectify the moisture source, often by improving insulation or adjusting AC airflow, to prevent recurrence.
