How urgent is black mold removal in my bedroom closet?« Back to Previous Page

My bedroom closet on the outside wall has developed a patch of black mold, I’d say about the size of a dinner plate. We’ve lived in this Marina apartment for 2 years and just noticed it a few days ago when pulling out winter clothes. I’m worried it’s spreading because my allergies have been terrible this week. How urgent is it that I get a professional mold removal company in to handle this, and is it something that can wait a few days or should I be calling someone today?

Based on the description of a dinner-plate-sized patch of black mold on an exterior wall in a Marina apartment, I would classify this as an urgent situation that warrants a professional inspection within the next 24-48 hours. The urgency is driven by three key factors: your health symptoms, the location of the growth, and the high-probability of a hidden moisture source.

The fact that your allergies have flared up indicates you are already being exposed to a significant concentration of mold spores, which can worsen with time. In Dubai's climate, exterior walls are often a condensation point due to the extreme outdoor humidity meeting the chilled surfaces from year-round AC operation. This creates a perfect breeding ground for mold. A patch of that size on a wall strongly suggests an ongoing moisture issue, likely from a small leak in the building envelope or, more seriously, within the AC system itself, which could be spreading spores throughout the apartment.

Attempting to clean it yourself is not advised. Disturbing the colony without proper containment can aerosolize a massive amount of spores, drastically increasing your exposure and cross-contaminating other areas. Furthermore, without identifying and rectifying the underlying moisture source, the mold will simply return.

Our standard protocol involves a thorough inspection using moisture meters and thermal imaging to pinpoint the exact cause, followed by a remediation plan that includes containment, HEPA filtration, and safe removal. For a case like this in the UAE, we strongly recommend you contact a professional immediately.
