How urgent is black mold removal with a baby?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, on the wall that faces the outside. It wasn't there during the last summer, but with all the humidity from the recent weather, it's appeared and seems to be spreading. With our baby also sleeping in our room, I'm getting really worried. How urgent is it to get this professionally treated, and is this something the building management should handle or do I need to call a specialist myself?

The situation you describe is extremely urgent. Black mold, particularly strains like Stachybotrys, produces mycotoxins that are hazardous to infant respiratory and immune systems, which are still developing. The location on an exterior wall points to a condensation issue, a common problem in Dubai due to the high ambient humidity interacting with cold air from your AC unit, creating an ideal microenvironment for proliferation.

This is a serious health risk, not just a cosmetic issue. For a baby, exposure can lead to chronic coughing, wheezing, and heightened allergic reactions. Building management is typically responsible for structural defects allowing water intrusion. However, the immediate mold contamination inside your unit and the associated health hazard fall to the occupant to remediate for the safety of your family.

You require a professional inspection immediately. A certified specialist will conduct moisture mapping and air quality testing to identify the exact species and spore count, which dictates the remediation protocol. DIY cleaning is not advised as it can aerosolize spores, increasing exposure.

Given the infant in the room, I recommend you contact a professional service without delay. Saniservice specializes in this exact scenario, using containment barriers, HEPA filtration, and UAE-approved antimicrobials to safely remove the biofilm. Please call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for an emergency assessment. Do not delay.
