How urgent is damp closet with black spots?« Back to Previous Page

My master bedroom closet on the inside wall has felt damp for the last couple of weeks, and I just found a few small black spots on some of my leather bags. With this humid weather we're having, how urgent is it that I get someone to look at this, and what's the first thing I should do right now?

Based on your description, this is a situation that warrants immediate attention. The combination of a damp closet, visible black spots on organic materials like leather, and the current high humidity in Dubai is a classic recipe for active mold growth.

Your first and most critical step is to isolate the area. Close the closet door and avoid disturbing the bags, as this can release spores into the air. Do not attempt to clean the spots yourself with bleach or other household cleaners, as improper methods can spread the contamination.

Given the UAE's climate, the underlying cause is likely elevated humidity trapped in an enclosed space, potentially exacerbated by a lack of ventilation or a hidden issue like a small plumbing leak or condensation from an AC unit within the wall. The urgency is high because what you see on the surface is often just a fraction of the actual growth, which can proliferate within wall cavities.

A professional inspection is strongly recommended. Our certified technicians use tools like thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of the moisture—without it, any cleaning is only a temporary fix. We follow the strict guidelines set by Dubai Municipality for assessment and remediation to ensure the problem is resolved safely and completely.
