How urgent is this mildew issue?« Back to Previous Page

After the heavy rains we had last month, I noticed a strange musty smell in my bedroom. When I checked, I saw some mildew growing on the back of the closet door behind where the carpet meets the wall. The AC seems to cycle more than usual now too. How urgent is this issue and what should I do right away?

The issue of mildew in your bedroom is indeed concerning and requires immediate attention. Given the recent heavy rains experienced across Dubai, it's common to see increased moisture levels which can lead to such problems. The musty smell and visible growth on the back of your closet door indicate a potential mold infestation.

In the UAE, particularly in Dubai, it’s crucial to address any signs of mildew promptly due to our climate conditions that favor mold growth. This situation is not just an aesthetic issue; mold can cause respiratory issues for individuals with allergies or asthma and may lead to structural damage over time if left unattended.

Firstly, it's important to assess the extent of the contamination. If you notice a small area of mildew (less than 10 square feet), you might be able to clean it yourself using common household disinfectants. However, for larger areas or any signs of black mold, professional inspection and remediation are highly recommended due to the stricter health regulations in Dubai.

I would advise calling our company at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or emailing hello@saniservice.com right away. Our team will provide a thorough assessment and offer solutions tailored for your specific situation, ensuring that any potential risks are mitigated effectively.

In the meantime, ensure proper ventilation in the affected area to reduce moisture levels. Avoid using fans directly on surfaces as they may spread spores; instead, open windows if possible or use dehumidifiers to control humidity. It’s also a good idea to clean the AC system and replace any filters that might be clogged with dirt or mold.

Remember, while DIY solutions can be effective for minor cases, professional expertise ensures thorough and safe remediation in line with local regulations. Regular inspections post-remediation can help prevent recurrence by addressing underlying moisture issues and maintaining a healthy indoor environment.
