How urgently do I need to treat this bedroom mold?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom AC unit in our Mirdif villa has been dripping a bit of water for a couple of weeks, but this morning I pulled back the curtain and found a patch of black and green mold, about the size of my hand, spreading on the wall behind it. With how humid it's been lately, how urgently do I need to get this professionally treated before it becomes a major health or structural issue?

This needs immediate attention, likely within 48-72 hours. The combination of a leaking AC unit and visible mold growth the size of your hand indicates an active moisture source, which in Dubai's current humidity will allow it to spread quickly behind the wall.

The dripping AC is the primary problem; it’s providing the constant moisture mold needs to thrive. Until that leak is fixed by an AC technician, any cleaning will be temporary. The visible patch is often just the tip of the iceberg, as mold colonies can expand significantly within wall cavities. For a growth of this scale and with a known water source, a professional inspection is strongly advised to assess the full extent and type of mold, as improper DIY cleaning can aerosolize spores and worsen contamination.

In the short term, ensure the area is well-ventilated and avoid disturbing the mold. A certified remediation provider can contain the area, rectify the moisture source, safely remove the contaminated materials, and verify cleanup with post-remediation testing—this is the standard for ensuring it is resolved and not just hidden. Delaying risks further structural damage to drywall and framing and increases the potential for health effects, particularly as it's in a bedroom.
