How urgently must I remove mold found behind wardrobe?« Back to Previous Page

Our villa in Jumeirah has felt extra humid since the heavy rains a few weeks ago. I just pulled out the guest room's wardrobe from the wall and found a patch of black and green fuzzy mold, about the size of a dinner plate, spreading on the back of it and the wall behind. With this summer heat constantly running the AC, how urgently do I need to get this professionally cleaned to keep it from spreading through the house?

Based on the conditions you've described, this situation requires immediate professional attention. The combination of recent heavy rain saturating building materials and the constant cooling from your AC unit creates a perfect storm for rapid mold proliferation. The "black and green fuzzy" growth indicates active colonization, likely comprising multiple species, some of which could be toxigenic.

The urgency stems from two factors. First, the mold colony is already substantial (dinner-plate size) and is actively releasing microscopic spores into your indoor air. With the AC system constantly circulating air, these spores are being distributed throughout the villa, potentially seeding new colonies in other areas with suitable conditions, such as other cool, hidden spaces or ductwork. Second, the Dubai summer heat forces AC systems to run nearly continuously, leading to significant condensation within walls and behind furniture, which provides the constant moisture source mold needs to thrive.

Do not attempt to clean this yourself. Disturbing the colony without proper containment, air filtration, and personal protective equipment will aerosolize a massive quantity of spores, significantly increasing the contamination level and potential health risks.

A certified professional inspection is critical. We use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to identify the full extent of moisture intrusion and hidden growth, followed by air and surface sampling to identify the species present. Remediation involves engineering controls to contain the area, HEPA filtration to capture airborne spores, and specialized antimicrobial agents to safely remove the biomass. The underlying moisture issue must also be addressed to prevent recurrence.

For a situation of this severity in Jumeirah, I recommend scheduling an inspection within the next 48 hours. Please call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to arrange an urgent assessment. Saniservice is fully equipped to handle this safely and in compliance with all local environmental health guidelines.
