How urgently must I treat bedroom wall mold?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a few black spots growing along the bottom corner of our bedroom wall, behind the wardrobe. It's on an interior wall that faces the building's corridor. The AC runs constantly and the room never feels damp, so I'm confused how it even started. How quickly do I need to get this professionally cleaned before it becomes a major health or structural issue?

Mold growth on an interior wall, especially behind furniture, points to a hidden moisture source. The most likely culprit is condensation forming on the cold wall surface from your constantly running AC, trapped by the wardrobe restricting air circulation. Dubai's high external humidity can also permeate building structures, creating a damp environment you can't feel in the room's air.

You should address this within the next week or two. While not an emergency requiring evacuation, prolonged exposure to even common mold types like Cladosporium can exacerbate allergies, asthma, and cause persistent sinus congestion. Structurally, it will continue to degrade drywall and paint.

Start by moving the wardrobe away from the wall to allow air to circulate. Wipe the visible spots with a solution of diluted white vinegar or a dedicated mold remover, but this is only a surface fix. The critical step is identifying and resolving the moisture source, which often requires a professional inspection with a thermal imaging camera to detect hidden condensation points within the wall cavity.

For a persistent issue on an interior wall, a certified assessment is recommended to diagnose the root cause and scope of growth, as spores may be present inside the wall. Remediation in the UAE should follow DM guidelines, which focus on containment, safe removal, and addressing the underlying moisture issue to prevent recurrence.
