How urgently remove mold for toddler helath?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the past two weeks and their pediatrician asked if there could be mold at home. I just pulled out a storage box from the corner of our master bedroom in Jumeirah and found a huge patch of black mold on the wall behind it, probably from last season's humidity. How urgently do I need to get this professionally cleaned for the health of my 3 and 5 year olds?

This requires immediate professional assessment and remediation. The combination of visible black mold, a known humidity source, and persistent respiratory symptoms in young children creates a high-priority situation. Toddlers are particularly vulnerable to mold spores, which can severely irritate developing airways and trigger or worsen chronic coughing.
In Dubai's climate, this mold growth is likely active due to our high humidity, especially if it was trapped behind a box against an exterior wall where condensation can form. Do not attempt to clean this yourself, as disturbing it will aerosolize a high concentration of spores throughout your home, potentially making your children's symptoms worse. A certified inspector should conduct a full assessment to determine the extent of the growth, even inside the wall cavity, and identify the mold species. This is critical for health reasons, as some species are more problematic than others. The remediation process itself must be controlled with containment and HEPA filtration to prevent cross-contamination. For a situation of this scale with health symptoms present, you should seek a professional evaluation within days, not weeks. Look for a company that provides before-and-after particle count data to verify the air quality has been restored. |
